This hidden gem is just 1/4 mile East of the Intersection of Highways 651 & 61 in Cottageville, SC. Only five miles from the Edisto River.
Horseshoe lake is primitive camping, if you are looking for modern amenities you wont find them here. This is a very rustic family run campground. They accept cash only and issue hand written receipts. The owners are new, however they are very nice and accommodating.
Going in mid February it was very peaceful and not crowded. They are undergoing some construction. The construction did not take away from the experience.
This 75 acre lake offers canoeing and kayaking, rentals are available.
They offer horse rentals, and have trails for both riding and biking.
They have a beach for swimming and off the porch fishing.
Off the balcony fishing was a great bonus. I got a bite with every cast.
The cabins were small but cheap, offering two twin beds, a heater, microwave and mini fridge. They have lots of character and definitely worth the money. (there is a twenty-five dollar per group non refundable fee to use their property, as well as the thirty-five dollar a night cabin rental. A fifty dollar refundable deposit is also required.)
They have fire pits, but no grills available. I recommend bringing a grate or a small grill for cooking.
Horseshoe Lake Farm is also pet friendly; however; they ask that you kennel your dogs while they are inside the cabins.
Overall the experience was definitely worth the money.
The lack of amenities would make longer stays a little more difficult. The cabins do not have running water, they are in close proximity to the shared bath house. which although clean was a little run down.
I would definitely recommend Horseshoe Lake Farm to anyone wanting a primitive back to nature, affordable experience.
Looks awesome. I’d love to go somewhere like this
